Summer Film Activity: The Railway Children Return (PG)

In this sequel to the 1970 film The Railway Children, this heartwarming story about siblings unfolds during the Second World War.

Watch the film and learn how to create a fabric flag inspired by the return of this nostalgic story.

We’ll be making vintage-style flags like the ones that the children wave at the passing trains. The workshop will begin by ageing our fabrics in tea and coffee, and completing some practice drawing and stitching. We’ll be looking at the beautiful rolling hills, steep stone roads and steam railways to add a nostalgic feel to our designs.

After the film we’ll set to work to add words and pictures to our flags using paint, stitch and an array of wonderful creative materials and fabrics. Every participant will take home a unique flag.

This workshop is suitable for children aged 8-14 years.

Schedule:
10am: welcome and warm up creative exercises
11:30am: film screening
1pm: lunch. Please bring a packed lunch with you.
After lunch: workshop of drawing, painting and stitching activities
3.30pm: ends
