Discover your inner “Passista” in this 1 hr introduction to Brazilian Samba no pé (Samba on the feet). Originating from the favelas of Brazil, it depicts the distinct heritage of the Brazilian people incorporating West African movements. Learn to parade, pose, and incorporate fundamental movements like rebolada (grinds and rolls), samba walks and floreios (flourishes). Wear comfortable clothes and bring a pair of low heels.
This type of samba is danced solo, often impromptu and is most commonly associated with Brazilian carnival.
Gillian has trained as a Samba dancer for 8 years, studying with Alex Coutinho and Jorge Amarelloh from Paraiso do Tuiuti Samba school in Rio de Janeiro. She regularly performs with the Rebolado Showgirls and freelances in the U.K
