In the small, mountain Italian village of Vermiglio in the waning days of WWII, Sicilian soldier Pietro arrives in the town after deserting the army and is taken in by the family of the local teacher, forming a bond with his daughter Lucia. In this moving portrait of a sprawling family and a customs of a fading era, Pietro’s arrival has consequences that will change the course of their lives.
