Join us for a film screening and discussion in the gallery, led by MFA Curating student Tom Cullimore. This experimental event is inspired by the film Sonnet of Vermin by Mexican artist Naomi Rincón-Gallardo, who is currently exhibiting works at Chapter as part of Artes Mundi 10.

We will be watching Naomi’s film and then using passages from a carefully chosen piece of speculative fiction to refract our own perspectives on the artwork. In a supportive and respectful small group space, there will be opportunities to discuss the film in relation to queer, feminist, postcolonial and environmental politics.

Our conversations might touch upon the film’s ironic use of narrative, its activist dialectics, its use of music, its evocation of post-human relationality and more.

Text available here: Speculative fabulations: enter the archive, or ‘beneath Yaba’s Garden’ by Ama Josephine B. Johnstone

Texts will be sent to ticket holders in advance and refreshments will be provided before and after the event.
