In the small village of Saint-Martial in Occitainie, the local baker, whose shop is the heart of the village has passed away, drawing his protégé Jérémie back to pay his respects. Staying long after the funeral, Jérémie begins to casually root himself within his mentor’s family, which includes his kind-hearted widow Martine and angry son Vincent, whilst reconnecting with people from his past. The entwined ambiguities of love and death are explored in this sharp, sinister and yet slyly funny thriller by Alain Guiraudie (Stranger by the Lake), who creates a quietly carnal world where violence can explode with the smallest spark.
