In rural post-WWII Japan, the arrival of a girl named Carmen attracts curiosity from the locals. It is discovered that she is originally from the village, previously known as Okin and she left to become a dancer in Tokyo. The headmaster, considers himself a champion of the arts, is overjoyed to discover that the village produced an artist, but when he is shocked when he discovers what kind of a dancer she is. Carmen, proud of her skills, decides to perform a showcase for the villagers. This iconic comedy is one of the era’s most beloved films, exploring the shift in moral standards and the first Japanese feature film produced in full colour.
