While traveling his route along the border between East and West Germany, projector repairman Bruno meets Robert, a depressed young man whose marriage has just broken up. The two form a genuine friendship as Robert accompanies Bruno on the road as he visits worn-out cinemas. A tender and illuminating film about life in a divided land, with the ever-encroaching lure of the shiny magic of America and the beauty of a vanishing Europe.
