Romania | 2023 | 164’ | 18 | Radu Jude | Nina Hoss
Structured in two parts that revolve around the production of a ‘safety at work’ video commissioned by a multinational company, this is a freewheeling essay-movie-slash-black-comedy that takes swipes at the absurdities of modern life in a post-totalitarian digital age. A pin-sharp, caustically funny and furious film from Radu Jude (Bad Luck Banging or Loony Porn), one of the most interesting directors to emerge from the Romanian New Wave, this is a dazzling social critique and a mischievous satire of capitalism, full of contradictions and digressions, surprising tonal shifts, and an endlessly anarchic sense of creativity.
