The performance on Wednesday 11 December has integrated BSL by Anthony Evans

Announcing the death of Capitalism, who passed away peacefully after a long illness.

We invite you to a service to celebrate the passing of the divisive economic and social system. Now, it’s time to say goodbye, and plan for a new future, for us, for future generations and for the planet. A world without human exploitation, without continual economic growth at the expense of the natural world.

Asking the question – how do we want to live?, Celebrations at The Funeral of Capitalism combines live art, theatre, dance and music, in a meditative final ritual that transforms into a party and communal meal*.

*This performance includes a buffet of locally made food that creates an opportunity for us to share time together, to talk together, to be together. A full menu will be available prior to the performance with a list of contents.

About the artists

Celebrations at The Funeral of Capitalism / Feierlichkeiten zur Beerdigung des Kapitalismus is the second collaboration between Laura Heinecke and Gareth Clark. The Heinecke/Clark partnership developed through an exploration of the role of the artist during the restrictions of the pandemic.

In developing this new show, they have teamed up with Carla Wierer and a collective of theatre makers, musicians and artists to explore elements of ritual in an attempt to create a modern happening that embraces the creative hopes and visions of the multi-skilled team.

This new collective is working towards creating an event that frames the journey of four performers as they explore grief, letting go, celebration and creating space to make new plans. The audience will follow a path through three spaces as the evening finally develops into a feast.
