German with English subtitles

It is 1990 and the reunification of Germany has begun. All East Germans are asked to present their financial assets and cash so it can be converted into the Western standard Deutschmarks. Maren lives in a former thriving industrial town, recently unemployed like many around her, with a mix of hope and fears for the new world she finds herself in. Hearing tales of old money stashed in an underground bunker, Maren and neighbours go looking for the cash so they can enter the new capitalist world in style. A caper very loosely inspired by real events, this is a sparkling look at a fascinating time in history.
