France | 2023 | 99’ | 12A | French and English with English subtitles | Paul B Preciado

Blurring the lines between reality and fiction, this is a fascinating documentary by trans writer Paul B Preciado, a leading figure in the study of gender and body politics. A playful, moving, cinematic love letter that expands Virginia Woolf’s novel Orlando: A Biography, in which the protagonist changes gender midway through the story to become a 36-year-old woman. A highly accessible film that invites us to look at 26 trans and non-binary people aged 8 to 70 embodying the character Orlando and showing that she has emerged from fiction to live a rich life she could never have imagined.

A fascinating documentary looking at Virginia Woolf’s iconic character.
