Mini Cardiff Animation Festival 2023: Wellbeing in Animation

Mini Cardiff Animation Festival 2023: Wellbeing in Animation

Fri 24 March

Poor mental health has been recognised as a serious problem across the creative industries for many years, leading to many people abandoning or seriously considering leaving the creative sector. People working in film and TV are twice as likely to experience anxiety compared with the national average. In the animation industry, factors like long working hours, high quotas, lack of transparency around pay and the realities of contract work can negatively impact health and wellbeing. So what can we do about it? How can we build an animation industry that's safe, healthy, and supports everyone on the team to meet their full potential without sacrificing their wellbeing? Join speakers from across the animation and wider creative industries to explore these questions.

"I get really cross when I hear people say that it's about survival of the fittest, you've got to just be tough, you've got to be resilient – if we want to tell stories that reflect our society we have to create a space where all different types of people can work." – contributor to Film and TV Charity's groud-breaking Looking Glass research into the wellbeing of people working in film, TV and cinema.

This event is part of Mini Cardiff Animation Festival, running 24–25 March 2023. For the full programme and more information go to
